Anne Hathaway in Passengers

With Anne Hathaway being nominated as best actress in the Oscars, it is enough that her movie “Passengers” would attract my curiosity to watch it. Yes, she is one of my most favorite stars. However, I do not know but I never even thought to attempt searching for this movie of which she starred. Thanks for the news that gave me the idea of her nomination. So I then decided that I should watch the movie whatever is the cost. Oops, just kidding… Well, I got the copy of “Passengers” movie and I spent almost two hours watching it. And voala... I loved it!

With her stunning performance on this movie, I could say she really more than deserves the nomination. She has turned into a more mature, more serious and a lot better actress. And she is still cute. And I fell in love with Anne Hathaway again.

What I like most about the movie is the thrilling revelations in the near end. I did not expect the events would twist that way.

I wanted to share more about the movie but I don’t want to spoil your expectations. There were some preachy kind of messages it but it is not overdone. Everything was just in place. They ran as if they just turned out to be like that, which needed further no explanation. I would not be ashamed of sharing this. I tell you, it is worth the time… http://cinemaroll.com/cinemarolling/anne-hathaway-in-passengers/

Welcome to Egypt

Egyptology is a new word for me. I learned this from the Discovery Channel during their feature of the ancient and modern history of Egypt. When I thought of Egypt, what comes into my mind is dust. Haha... In my mind, there is nothing in Egypt except the pyramids, the mommy, the dessert and the heat of the sun. I was of course wrong. There are also hotels there, I just learned. With that being said, the thought of those explorers and archaeologists sleeping on the sand was already replaced with interesting picture of a great Egypt. So, I did some homework and gather the things about Egypt.

1) Pyramids. Of course, this should be first on the list. The gigantic 3D triangular structure in the middle of Giza is one of the remnants of the ancient Egypt. Of all the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, it is the only that still exists. These pyramids were constructed as tombs for Pharaohs and their upper class consorts and families. But why on earth is the pyramid in the shape of a ‘pyramid’? One theological principle said that pyramids were designed of having its narrow side pointing the sky so the dead’s soul could ascend directly into the heaven.

2) Mummies. Yes, you read it right. Creepy? That’s what makes it interesting. It is the mummification actually that what I wanted to point here. But since I have already pointed here about mummies, may it be suitable to give justice to it. It is just a corpse whose skin and internal organs have been preserved by exposure to chemicals, low humidity, vacuum, or extreme coldness. Mummification on the other hand is the process of making mummies. The concept of this process was at first unintentional. The heat, the sand and the lack of moisture in Egypt were the things that contributed to this process.

3) Sphinx. Other than the pyramids in Egypt, another mysterious structure worth to visit is the Sphinx. Until, no one has ever known its origin and where it came from. It actually looked like a lion with a human head. Generally, this mythological figure was believed to serve as temple guardian. Is it not worth to find out?

These are only three of those that stirred my imagination. What about the famous Nile River, the Valley of the Kings, the Egyptian Museum, the Necropolis of Sakkarah, the Siwa Oasis, and much more? That is why the science of Egyptology was born. I think, I’ll have in my list Egypt as one of the places to visit before I die.

Top 5 Never-to-do Things

1. Never compare yourself to others.

You have no idea how to be in their shoes. If you do this, you would find people who are worse than what you think and those who are a lot better than you. If you discover that some people are less attractive, or less talented, or less intelligent than you, you would feel arrogant and be so proud of yourself. Whereas if you find people who are way better than you, the tendency is that you would pity yourself. Either way won’t bring you good.

What to do instead: Focus on making the most of who you are, what you have and what you can do best, then share it to others.

2. Never dwell on negative things from the past.

Your past is past. You can never change it. By letting the bad experiences ruin your thoughts, you could hardly face the good things around you. In this case, you would have the hard time seeing the path towards your future.

What to do instead: Exercise your mind to think of great things in your past so you would get inspired to live with your present. The best thing you can do with those past miseries is to forget it, if not, then learn from it and as much as possible don’t let it happen again.

3. Never overdo things.

As the famous cliché says, nobody is perfect. And so are you! By being too pushy in everything you do, you would end up being disappointed if you don’t get what you want.

What to do instead: Do things excellently. Make effort to become excellent. But always remember you have your limitations.

4. Never waste your time on gossip.

Lots of troubles start in gossips. Life is too short and if you spend more time in gossiping than other productive things, then you do not just waste your precious time but your energy as well. Many people sometimes thought this nonsense activity creates a bonding among the group. It’s on the other way around. Expect that those people who gossip to you will also gossip about you.

What to do instead: Give some time to cultivate your hobbies.

5. Never dare to win every argument.

By doing this, do you think you would become the most powerful person? Maybe... But only for the meantime... The bigger impact is that people would tend to avoid having conversations with you. How lonely it is to be a floating island!

What to do Instead: If you are tempted to comment back on other people’s ideas, zip close your mouth and hold it from opening. Experience the value of silence once in a while. Sometimes, you have to agree to agree. And by doing this, you are already promoting peace!

Equilibrium and its Paradoxical Thoughts to Ponder

The bizarre irony of thoughts in the movie “Equilibrium” was what lured me to write a small review about it.

“In the first years of the 21st century, a third world war broke out. Those of us who survived knew mankind could never survive... a fourth. That our own volatile natures could simply no longer be risked. So we have created a new arm of the law, the Grammaton Cleric, whose sole task it is to seek out and eradicate the true source of Man’s inhumanity to Man. His ability to feel”. A man’s voice narrating these things at the beginning part of the movie yet suggested what to expect from the story. And indeed, feelings and emotions were totally banned in whole society of Libria. Products of human imagination that could stir up any forms of emotions were swept out by burning and destroying them. These include the historical relics such as paintings, books, music instruments, and many others. Even a simplest drop of sadness that is tears were never tolerated.

Can you ever imagine living in such an awful society, where feelings are considered a disease? Feelings are subjective, yes. But we can’t enjoy life without it. Feelings are what make us sad or angry. But at the same time it’s what also makes us happy. It’s what makes us care and love other creatures and ourselves. Life becomes an adventure because of it. With the absence of any of these emotions, life does not bring us joy and excitement.

“Feelings are a s vital as breath... and without it, breath is just a clock... ticking,” This is one of my favourite philosophical lines of the movie. In fact, this particular line cores down the whole message the director wanted to convey.

I don’t know if there are other movies with the same kind of paradox, but it certainly is a great one that could make you fall on your knees and ponder.

Avatar – James Cameron is a Genius!

I just can’t wait to finish the movie I was watching, I wanted to share it right away to other people so badly… Very "i do not know the right word"… It just quenched my soul craving of seeing another world…!

With his newest talk-of-the-world masterpiece Avatar, I throw my hat unto him for his ingenuity. Maybe ‘ingenuity’ is only an underrated word I could think of as of now but there is no doubt he’s got loads of ‘Pendora’ world in his brain.

I did not just watch the movie, I felt it. It gave me a feeling of satisfaction of being able to spend a worthy precious time wandering and wondering into the world that just once ran in the minds of James Cameron. I felt like I had touched those creatures that I have not even imagined before. The magnificent and majestic landscapes where there are floating mountains. The vast forest where there are colourful sea like creatures. The gigantic vines suspended in the midair are breathtaking. Every inch of the moment spent with this extraordinary world was craved quenching. With all these and much more, how could someone live with such a perfectly wild imagination?

Greatest Michaels of All Time

When I was in college, I was mistaken as Michael. I do not know why but people in Del Carmen where I rented a room called me Michael. Then, I thought maybe it is a sign that someday I’d become one of those people with great achievements like the Michael’s.

I have listed 6 of the greatest Michaels in the history.

6. Michael Phelps. He is known as one of the greatest Olympian swimmers of all time. He has won 14 career Olympic gold medals and has broken 37 world records in swimming. That’s why he’s great.

5. Michael Buble. He is a famous multiple award-winning Canadian Jazz singer. In 2007, his album “Call Me Irresponsible” reached number one on several international charts and has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide. He is my favourite.

4. Michael Angelo. Simply known as Michaelangelo whose real name is Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, he was the rival of another famous Italian Renaissance genius Leonardo da Vinci. Some of his famous masterpieces are seen from the Sistine Chapel ceiling. No question he is considered as one of the greatest people in the history.

3. Michael Faraday. A Chemist and Physicist at the same time, he contributed lots of stuff to the fields of electromagnetism and electrochemistry. To name a few, he was the one who discovered electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism, laws of electrolysis, etc. These concepts are still being used in modern companies.

2. Michael Jordan. Well, there may be new generations of great basketball players but surely Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time. He was also one of the most sought out endorser of so many commercial products worldwide. Some of his accomplishments in the court include 5 MVP awards, 10 All-NBA First Team designations, 9 All-Defensive First Team honours, 3 All-Star Game MVP awards, and much more.

1. Michael Jackson. He is the most successful American musician, dancer, and entertainer and referred to as the King of Pop. Though he had not much of a happy ending, undeniably he is one of the most influential entertainers of all time. Everything that he did in his life has been getting so much attention of the whole world. With the sold out albums, chart-topping songs, record-breaking concerts and even to his controversies even after his death, no doubt he is the greatest Michael of all time.
